What is “Haskaris”
It is a Kastorian tradition that takes place on Meat fare (Apokries) Sunday. After dinner everyone has a great time by trying to catch in their mouth a hard boiled egg that hangs by a wooden stick (klosti). The meaning of this tradition is symbolic. An egg begins the fast of Great Lent just as with an egg the fast is broken on Holy Saturday, the night of the Resurrection.
